Smart Harvest's technology is a Phospholipase D (PLD) inhibition technology, developed and patented by the University of Guelph (Ontario, Canada). Smart Harvest has entered into an exclusive worldwide licensing agreement to develop and commercialize the patented formulation, branded as FRESHXtend.

The technology is a proven method to enhance shelf life and quality in fruits, vegetables and flowers through a reduction in phospholipid catabolism and maintenance of membrane integrity and compartmentalization.
